MOST AMAZING ROCK FORMATIONS
The Wave in Arizona, is reached by an approximately 3 mile (4.8 kilometers) one way hike.
The Wave Arizona is an area close to Utah-Arizona borderline. It is a unique place of bizarre and delightful rock formations located at the Paria Rimrocks, extending towards the Vermillion Cliffs and the Coyote Buttes. The famous formations are made of the so called Jurassic age Navajo Sandstone, which turned to rock after almost 200 million years. The hillocks are piled up atop each other forming these strange formations in both vertical and horizontal layers.
The entire area is like a gallery of unique sandstone arrangements which come in different sizes and patterns; some of them resemble mushrooms, some others pillars and cones. In any case the Wave Arizona features the oddest mixture of colors in the US, as deposits of iron and other metals have added to the creation of a colorful rainbow amidst the rocks.
