MOUNT RORAIMA, TEPUI PLATEAU, SOUTH AMERICA

Mount Roraima is also known as Cerro Roraima and Tepuy Roraima. It is the highest of the Pakaraima chain of tepui plateau in South America. This mountain was first described by the English explorer Sir Walter Raleigh in 1596. According to him its summit area is 31 square kilometres which is defended on all sides by tall cliffs rising 1300 feet (400 metres).

This mountain is the triple border point of Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana.

The tabletop mountains of the Canaima National park are considered some of the oldest geological formations on Earth, dating back to some 2 billion years ago in the Precambrian.
